Encryption

Drag, drop,
encrypted.

Protect any file in seconds. Simply drag files into FileBit and they're encrypted with military-grade AES-256-GCM. Use your vault password for seamless encryption, or set a custom password for sharing with others.

  • Drag & drop any file or folder
  • Custom password mode for sharing
  • SHA-256 integrity verification

Decryption

Decrypt with a double-click.

Open any .fbit file and FileBit automatically detects it. Decrypt and save to disk, or import directly into your vault. Handles both vault-encrypted and custom-password files seamlessly.

  • Auto-detects .fbit encrypted files
  • Decrypt & Save or Import to Vault
  • Supports vault key & custom passwords

Biometric Security

Unlock with Touch ID.

Your vault password is securely stored in the macOS Keychain with biometric access control. The Secure Enclave handles verification — your password never leaves the hardware chip.

  • Touch ID via Secure Enclave
  • Configurable auto-lock timeout
  • Manual lock with Cmd+Shift+L

Secure Shredding

Gone means gone.

When you shred a file, FileBit overwrites it with a 3-pass algorithm — zeros, ones, then cryptographically random data — before deleting it. Recovery is impossible.

  • 3-pass overwrite (0x00, 0xFF, random)
  • Disk flush after each pass
  • Every operation logged in Audit Log

Recovery

12 words.
Complete recovery.

During setup, FileBit generates a 12-word BIP39-style recovery phrase. If you ever forget your vault password, enter these words to regain access and set a new password.

  • 3-word verification challenge
  • Re-encrypts vault with new password

Built for security.
Designed for simplicity.

Every feature in FileBit exists to protect your files without getting in your way.

Encrypted Vault

All files are stored in a secure vault using UUID-based filenames that reveal nothing about the original content. Metadata, checksums, and audit logs are stored separately for complete traceability.

Audit Log

Every encrypt, decrypt, shred, share, and import operation is logged with timestamps, filenames, and success status.

Tags & Favorites

Organize your vault with custom tags and star your most important files for instant access.

Secure Sharing

Share encrypted .fbit files via AirDrop, Messages, or Mail. Export with a custom password so recipients only need that password to decrypt.

Settings & Control

Configure auto-lock timeout, toggle custom passwords, manage biometrics, view recovery phrase, and check vault statistics — all in one place.

File Import

Drag any .fbit file into FileBit. It auto-attempts decryption with your vault key, or prompts for a custom password if needed.

Enterprise-grade encryption.

The same standard trusted by governments and financial institutions worldwide.

Questions?

Everything you need to know about FileBit.

FileBit requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
FileBit uses AES-256-GCM — the same encryption standard used by the U.S. government for classified data. Keys are derived using PBKDF2-SHA256 with 600,000 iterations, and all cryptographic operations are handled by Apple's hardware-accelerated CryptoKit framework.
Absolutely not. FileBit collects zero data — no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports. It makes zero network requests and uses zero third-party SDKs. Your files never leave your Mac.
During first setup, FileBit generates a 12-word recovery phrase. If you forget your password, enter the recovery words to regain access and set a new vault password. Your files will be re-encrypted with the new key automatically.
Yes! FileBit can export files encrypted with a custom password. The recipient just needs FileBit and the custom password to decrypt. You can share .fbit files via AirDrop, Messages, Mail, or any other method.
The Shredder permanently destroys files using a 3-pass overwrite: zeros, ones, then cryptographically random data. Each pass is flushed to disk before the file is deleted, making recovery impossible.
