FileBit Privacy Policy

Overview

FileBit is designed with a strict privacy-first philosophy. The app operates entirely offline and does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data whatsoever. Your files never leave your device.

The only exception to this is data that Apple may collect at the platform level through the App Store and macOS, as described in the Apple Platform Data section below. FileBit itself has no access to, and makes no use of, any such data.

Data We Collect

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

FileBit does not collect any of the following:

• Contact information (name, email, phone number)
• Health or fitness data
• Financial or payment information
• Location data
• Contacts or address book data
• User content or files
• Browsing or search history
• Identifiers (device ID, advertising ID)
• Usage data or analytics
• Diagnostics or crash reports

Please note: Apple may independently collect some of the above categories at the platform level when you use the App Store or macOS. See the Apple Platform Data section for details.

Network Access

FileBit makes zero network requests. The app does not connect to any server, API, or external service. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, no analytics, and no cloud sync. All encryption, decryption, and file operations happen locally on your Mac.

Encryption & Security

Your files are protected with industry-standard cryptography:

• AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption
• PBKDF2-SHA256 key derivation with 600,000 iterations
• SHA-256 file integrity verification
• Touch ID / Face ID biometric authentication via the Secure Enclave
• 3-pass secure shredding for permanent file deletion

All cryptographic operations use Apple's native CryptoKit framework. Your vault password and encryption keys are stored exclusively in the macOS Keychain and are never transmitted.

Local Data Storage

FileBit stores the following data only on your device:

• Encrypted files in ~/Library/Containers/com.sangeetha.FileBit/
• Vault metadata (file index, settings) in the same directory
• Vault password in the macOS Keychain (if biometric unlock is enabled)

To completely remove all FileBit data from your Mac, delete the application and run:
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.sangeetha.FileBit

Apple Platform Data

FileBit is distributed through the Apple App Store. As part of operating the App Store and macOS platform, Apple may collect certain data independently, including:

• Crash logs — if you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in your macOS or iOS settings, Apple may provide anonymised crash reports to us via App Store Connect
• App analytics — Apple may collect aggregate, anonymised usage statistics such as install counts and session data through App Store Connect

This data is collected by Apple, not by FileBit, and is governed entirely by Apple's Privacy Policy. FileBit does not receive any personally identifiable information through these channels, and we do not use any crash or analytics data to track individual users.

You can control whether your device shares diagnostics with app developers by going to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on macOS.

Third-Party Services

FileBit uses no third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks beyond Apple's own system frameworks (SwiftUI, CryptoKit, LocalAuthentication). There are no ads, no tracking pixels, and no embedded analytics.

Children's Privacy

FileBit does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the app collects no data at all, it is inherently compliant with COPPA and similar regulations.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL. Given that FileBit collects no data, we do not anticipate material changes.
